A Mark O'Connell Film
JANUARY 2003: BOX OF TRICKS DEFINATIVE VERSION!

Im pleased to announce that a complete version of Box of Tricks is now in production. Originally the project was concieved as a 10 minute cartoon. Due to guidelines at university, most of the story was lost to fit the 3 minute project requirement. The beginning and end had to be sacrificed and a temporary one added for continuity. Now, free from time restraints, I am working on the definative version of Box of Tricks, as it was originally written. I am currently working on concept art, and animating the first scenes of this new version. If you would like a preview disc, please

MAY 2002: FINISHING TOUCHES

I am now adding the 'finishing touches' to Box of Tricks. I have been colouring the final scenes as well as adding shadows and various lighting effects. Sound is now being added to the final cut of the film.

MARCH 2002: TEASER TRAILER NOW ONLINE!

Due to the tremendous response I have recieved regarding 'Box of Tricks', I decided to move forwards the release date of the Teaser trailer. I am pleased to announce that it is available right now for downloading! I have also added some wallpapers to liven up your desk-tops. I have a lot more planned in the coming months for your viewing pleasure including The full trailer, a behind the scenes documentary, and the cartoon itself. Stay tuned to this site for regular updates. On another note, the animation is progressing nicely and I'm looking forwards to it's release in June 2002. As always, I welcome your comments so feel free to contact me at mark@mocfilms.com
Until next time, happy animating!

FEBRUARY 2002: ANIMATING LIKE CRAZY!

Animation is going well, with a third of the cartoon now complete. I recently took a break from animating to record the final, and most important voice for Box of Tricks. Katie Wilson has stepped into the shoes (or more appropriately - the voice) of Daniel, the main star of the cartoon. Being a true method actress, Katie even acted out many of Daniels adventures for the sake of animation.
A Behind the Scenes documentary of 'Box of Tricks' is also in production. It will be posted exclusively on this site, and will be featured in both Windows Media and Quicktime formats. Stay tuned to this site in the coming months for a lot more news, and a few suprises...

JANUARY 2002: ANIMATIC COMPLETED

Happy New Year! I have completed the animatic and the rough cut of the film is working well. Animatics are important because they allow you to watch the film without doing any animation. You can then view which scenes are going well, and which need further development. This saves a tremendous amount of time during production. I'm pleased to say that not many amendments are needed and the film is working well. I can now confirm that animation has started on one of the most important scenes in the cartoon. Stay tuned to this site throughout 2002 for more exclusive news, pictures, interviews with the cast, and the online premiere of 'Box of Tricks'!

DECEMBER 20001: MAIN STARS CAST AND RECORDED

Nearly all of the voices in 'Box of Tricks' have been cast and recorded. I can exclusively reveal that Cathie Betts, Sophie Baker, Kelly Gregg, and Katie Thomas have stepped into the shoes of my characters. The recording sessions went well, with everyone offering something unique and exciting to the project.

NOVEMBER 2001: CASTING SESSIONS UNDERWAY

With pre-production of 'Box of Tricks' now entering it's final stages, I have started looking for voice talent to breath life into my characters. People from various walks of life have been interviewed, and the process is going very well. The main challenge is finding somebody to vocalise the main star Daniel. It's hard finding an adult woman that can convincingly sound like a 5 year old boy!
